Flicker Fridays kicks off this month!
Published on 23 September 2019
Western Sydney and Fairfield-based digital production agencies, supported by Fairfield City Council, will host a free monthly film screening event Flicker Fridays.
Flicker Fridays will be held on the last Friday of the month at the Crescent Plaza in Fairfield commencing this month.
The program line up has been carefully curated to raise awareness around issues that matter most to the Fairfield City community. The films were created by the community through a series of community arts and cultural development projects funded by Fairfield City Council.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the initiative encouraged social and cultural connectedness in a public space.
"Flicker Fridays aims to develop a sense of belonging through storytelling, filmmaking and other cultural art forms led by the community," Mayor Carbone said.
"Its aim is to encourage social cohesion between communities of different cultural backgrounds living in Fairfield City."
"Each film has been handpicked to showcase the fresh perspectives of the next generation of cultural cinematographers from the area."
"I encourage you to come down and support this exciting initiative."
The program will kick off with CuriousTV! by CuriousWorks featuring six short youth-led films exploring the stories and experiences of Fairfield City locals.
Screening on Friday 27 September, the films explore topics such as migrant and refugee experiences, women's stories, sub-cultures in Fairfield City and mental health. Prone to the Drone, written by Shawn Spina and directed by Daisy Montalvo, will screen for the first time in western Sydney since it debuted at the 2019 Sydney Film Festival.
