Council will open the 50-metre outdoor pool at Prairiewood Leisure Centre to the community from next Tuesday 5 October.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the opening of the pool will allow residents to get outside, active and to cool off in a COVID-safe environment.

“I know everyone has faced a difficult time and I want to acknowledge the community’s great effort in leading the way in vaccinations, with many of our suburbs having now reached 90 per cent first dose,” Mayor Carbone said.

“I know that the closure of some of Council’s popular services was disappointing to many residents, but we had to put the health and safety of our community first.

“Council took the opportunity during lockdown to repair the pool. We have also been using Prairiewood Leisure Centre as a food distribution hub and have supplied 23,000 meals and 6,550 hampers to residents and families doing it tough during these challenging times. The food distribution hub will be relocated to Wetherill Park Community Hall so that the pool can reopen.

“I’m excited that we are able to open Prairiewood Leisure Centre’s outdoor pool as an early step in easing lockdown restrictions, especially as the warmer weather and summer approaches.”

To use the 50-metre outdoor pool at Prairiewood Leisure Centre, the following conditions as set by the NSW Government apply:
• Check in using the Service NSW app.
• If feeling unwell stay home and get tested
• Wear a mask when not entering or in the water
• ‘Swim and go’, encouraging all to shower/change at home
• Can gather in groups of 5 if vaccinated
• Can only gather in groups of 2 if not vaccinated

“The outdoor pool at Fairfield Leisure Centre is still undergoing repairs and will open soon. Council will keep you informed of progress and a reopening date for Fairfield,” Mayor Carbone said.

“I encourage residents to enjoy the outdoor pool at Prairiewood Leisure Centre responsibly, so that we can continue to open up progressively back to a more normal way of life.”
