Fairfield City Museum & Gallery is seeking volunteers to assist in delivering the Living the Past heritage education program.

The program, delivered twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the historic Vintage Village, is designed to give visitors a glimpse into the lives of early European settlers in western Sydney.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone is encouraging residents to get involved and share their skills and interests with the community.

“Fairfield City Museum & Gallery provides an educational workshop for primary school age students that delivers a curriculum based interactive tour of its Vintage Village,” Mayor Carbone said.

“The museum is looking for volunteers who would be interested in educating students about Fairfield City’s heritage through this popular program.

“This is a rewarding opportunity for volunteers which can help them build confidence and challenge them to try something different, while meeting new people.”

With its original heritage-listed and reconstructed buildings, Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s Vintage Village depicts local businesses, a schoolroom and residences from the 1880s to the 1930s, complete with historic interiors and soundscapes.

Opportunities are now available for general volunteer and blacksmith positions to help run the program, with training provided. Applicants must have a Working with Children Check and up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination.

If you are interested in a Living the Past volunteer opportunity, contact Fairfield City Museum & Gallery on 9725 0190 or email FCMG@fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au.
