Hire a Sportsfield for the summer or winter seasons

Fairfield City Council provides 36 sportsfields across the City, a significant asset and annual investment in sports and recreation for the community. Local schools rely upon the City’s sportsfields for local students.

Two athletics fields at Makepeace Park in Fairfield and Rosford Park in Smithfield provide the City’s children and young people an opportunity to keep fit, develop skills and grow in their talents.

Hiring a sportsfield is heavily subsidised to ensure:

Annual surface renovation and maintenance work: aeration, topdressing, weed spraying, fertilising and turfing (September to March)
Cleaning and maintenance of amenity buildings, car parks. watering systems and lighting
Scheduled grass cutting and line marking to ensure the best playing conditions

We are pleased to announce that applications for the upcoming 2026 winter season sportsfield hire are now open. We invite all interested parties to submit their applications early to secure their preferred fields for the season.

Season Dates: 1 April 2026 - 31 August 2026

Pre-season Dates: 23 February 2026 - 31 March 2026

Make sure you have the following documentation ready before submitting your application:

Insurance (copy of your current certificate of currency)
Field layout if you require line marking (if same as last year just put ‘no changes’).

Important Notice: Due to Council’s annual field renovation and rejuvenation program, access to the fields will not be available until the last week of February.

This will allow Council to complete the program and allow sportsfields to properly repair and restore in readiness for the official winter season.
