Fairfield City welcomed the Year of the Tiger at the highly anticipated Cabramatta Lunar New Year Festival, which returned to the town centre on 19-20 February 2022.

More than 8,000 revellers joined in on the celebrations spread across two fun-filled days, kicking off with the Bluey & Bingo Interactive Experience on the main stage at Freedom Plaza.

At 12pm, Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone led the official ceremony and welcomed the community back following the cancellation of the last two Cabramatta Lunar New Year events due to COVID-19.

The town centre was bustling with activity; magician David Ung dazzled families on stage with his stand up parlour magic, the SBS Fun Zone offered free tiger craft, amusement rides and dragon and lion dancing workshops, and the Mekong Activation Zone had free face painting, a caricaturist, the god of fortune and more.

The wishing tree and lunar lantern lights gazebo was a sight to behold as festivities continued into the night, offering visitors the opportunity to capture Insta-worthy snaps with their loved ones.

Day one wrapped up with the lighting of traditional firecrackers by Deputy Mayor Dai Le, followed by an amazing fireworks finale at 9pm.

Day two of celebrations started with the blessing of the Fairfield City community at 10am, followed by traditional lion dancing, firecrackers, and amusement rides until 4pm.

Thank you to our sponsors for making the event possible:
