Australia Day Celebrations

Published on 27 January 2023

Australia Day is an important day of the year to celebrate and show gratitude for this country and what it means to be Australian, while recognising the important contributions made to our society by community members through our Australia Day Community Awards.

The annual Fairfield City Community Awards pay tribute to all those who dedicate their time and effort into making Fairfield City a better community for all.

I presented four major awards in various categories to outstanding community members at Aquatopia at Prairiewood Leisure Centre yesterday. The winners were:

  • Diane Gorman – Fairfield Citizen of The Year;
  • Neethu Siril – Young Citizen of The Year;
  • Khanh Van Mach – Volunteer of The Year; and
  • Luka Knezevic  – Sports Achiever of the Year

Their dedication and commitment is an example to us all. Our winners often go about their business quietly but I’d like to thank all these community achievers, and recognise their tireless efforts.

I congratulate Diane Gorman, Neethu Siril, Khanh Van Mach and Luka Knezevic on their wonderful achievements.

The awards ceremony was assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.

Congratulations also to the 11 people who received Australian citizenship at this very special ceremony.

As part of the Australia Day celebrations, entry to Fairfield and Prairiewood pools was free, as well as Fairfield Youth and Community Centre.

I hope you were able to come together with friends and family to celebrate Australia Day and what it means for you.
