National Reconciliation Week

String with Australian flags, Aboriginal flags and Torres Strait Islander flags.

National Reconciliation Week runs annually from 27 May – 3 June. These dates mark two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: The 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision, respectively.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how everyone can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds, and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2025 is Bridging Now to Next, and reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. The theme calls on all Australians to step forward together, urging us to look ahead and to push forward as past lessons guide us.

The 2025 National Reconciliation Week theme artwork Bridging Now to Next was created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw A.K.A Little Butten and features native plants which are known to regenerate after fire and thrive through adversity.

In line with the National Reconciliation Week theme, thousands of workplaces, schools, early learning services, universities, councils, and more organise their own private or public activities for National Reconciliation Week.

Fairfield City Council will celebrate National Reconciliation Week with the 2025 National Reconciliation Week flag raising event at the Council Administration in Wakeley on Tuesday 27 May 2025, from 9:30am - 12:00pm.
