Here we’ve gathered some resources that you might use as a young person to help you get ready for your first interview.

Good Interview / Bad Interview

After putting the work into writing your resume, finding a job opening and applying for the job – you might be called back for an interview!

Everyone reacts in a different way to interviews, some may be more confident and some might find them really daunting, but most people can agree their first interview never goes to plan! Just like with any other skill, job interviews get easier the more you do them, but there are ways you can prepare and practice to make it just that bit easier when you’re in the room.

Preparing for an interview

Here are some tips from the WYSC that might help you get interview ready:

Before the interview:

  • Research the company and be aware of what they do, how they came about
  • Review the job description
  • Prepare responses to common interview questions
  • Practice being interviewed with a friend or family member.

Here are some practice questions your friend or family member could ask you:

  • Can you tell me something about yourself that isn’t on your resume?
  • What attracted you to this position?
  • What are your strengths?
  • Can you tell me about a time when you had a challenge or conflict you’ve faced at work (or school). How did manage it and what was the outcome?
  • Why do you think you’re suitable for this role?
