Work Health and Safety – upmost importance placed on the safety of all employees at Fairfield City Council.

Equal Employment Opportunity – Fairfield is committed in providing a workplace that is free from discrimination, by promoting diversity and fostering a positive working environment for all employees. This will be achieved in an environment where everyone is treated fairly and where a culture of mutual respect applies. Council aims to ensure that when employment decisions are made, they are based on merit and without discrimination.

Staff Social Club – The staff social club offers a chance for all new and current staff members to mix socially outside the work environment.  Various functions are organised by the self-funded club throughout the year to enable staff to get together in a friendly social atmosphere.

Employee Assistance Program – confidential, professional and free counselling and support to all employees of Council through an independent company, Converge International.

Smoking in the workplace - Fairfield City Council is committed to the promotion of health and wellbeing of all Council staff and endorses the right of an individual to work in a smoke free environment. All areas under the control of Fairfield City Council, other than ‘Designated Smoking Areas’, are regarded as Smoke Free Areas. This includes all inside areas, all vehicles, all outside areas or facilities.

Bullying and Harassment - We are committed to providing a workplace where people are treated with fairness, dignity and respect.

We value and understand diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace and will ensure that policies, procedures and actions reflect and value the social and cultural diversity within Council and the community. All employees must treat each other with dignity, courtesy and respect, and it is the responsibility of all managers and employees to uphold these values.

Alcohol and other drugs - We want staff to work safely, in a safe place. To assist with this, we have an Appropriate Workplace Behaviour (Drug and Alcohol) Internal Policy and Procedure. Employees at work should not be affected by alcohol or other drugs that may affect the way they perform their work.
