Drive-in movies are coming soon to Fairfield Showground, providing families with an exciting, affordable and safe night out.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone reached out to Australian Amusements recently to bring the event to life. Australian Amusements are also responsible for the popular annual Easter Fair at Fairfield Showground, which unfortunately did not go ahead this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Mayor Carbone said as COVID-19 restrictions ease, Council is eager to provide events and activities for the community to enjoy while staying safe.

“We all miss going to the movies with a big bucket of popcorn with our families,” Mayor Carbone said.

“The community has done an incredible job at preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our suburbs, and we want families to be able to experience the simple joys of a night out at the movies again.

“This will be a fun, safe and affordable activity for families to come together and enjoy while still following important social distancing rules.

“Council is committed to the health and wellbeing of all our residents. We will make sure to follow all relevant COVID-19 restrictions at that time.”

An announcement on dates and prices will be made in the coming weeks.

“Fairfield Showground is the physical heart of our community and Council is working hard to make it our cultural heart as well by opening it up for the community to enjoy,” Mayor Carbone said.

“We are busy transforming the showground with new sporting fields, festival spaces, a multipurpose amenities and community building, improvements to our grandstands, and a new all-abilities playground at neighbouring Deerbush Park.

“I look forward to announcing more exciting events at the showground over the coming months and years.”
