THE POSITION: Fairfield City Council’s is seeking Horticulturist trades gardeners as we expanded our open space area This is a Permanent Full-Time position and is part of our City Operations Area.

Council is currently looking for suitably qualified persons to maintain our Open Space areas. If you are a physically fit, hard-working individual who is up for a challenge; this may be the role for you.

The Parks Trades Gardener role will require you to use your horticultural knowledge to ensure the presentation of Council’s parks and gardens and reserves is of the highest standard.  You will be responsible for ensuring maintenance such as pruning, mulching, planting and weed management is carried out in a professional, timely and proactive manner whilst ensuring you and your team work safely.  You will work as a small team, offering direction and guidance in all things horticultural to other team members.  You will operate plant daily with high levels of safety, quality, and customer focus.  We are looking for a highly motivated switched-on person who enjoys being part of a team whose goal is to provide the best possible service to the rate payers of Fairfield City Council.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Trade Certificate III in Horticulture/Green keeping/Landscaping/Nursery
  • Previous experience in maintenance of parks and gardens (typically 2 years)
  • Plant identification skills
  • Experience operating and maintaining small horticultural machinery (mower, blower)
  • WHS Construction Induction Card (Whitecard)
  • Current Class 1A driver’s licence

DESIRABLE:

  • Chem Cert Certificate (AQF 3) NSW and experience with operating weed spraying equipment

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent position, 76 hours per fortnight
  • This position is a Level D position, salary range is $66,777 p.a. with progression to $71,915 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $78,218 p.a.
  • A Uniform is provided
