Fairfield City Council will begin accepting applications for the annual Social Change through Creativity Grant program from 6 December 2017 until 4 April 2018.
First launched in 2003, the grants program supports creative projects that address important community issues.
Mayor of Fairfield City Frank Carbone said the 2017 grant recipients delivered a range of initiatives that have had a positive effect on the community.
“The Social Change through Creativity Grant program contributes to the social wellbeing of the Fairfield City community by empowering local groups to deliver a range of creative initiatives,” Mayor Carbone said.
“Council continues to be inspired by the creativity, commitment and dedication shown by residents and local organisations in their efforts to making Fairfield City a better place for everyone to enjoy.
“Some projects delivered by previous applicants include a Spanish-language play that united community members from 22 countries of origin, a fortnightly youth workshop and final performance that highlights the traditions of Pacific nations and a youth mentoring program for Iraqi-Australians.”
Grant applicants can receive up to $5,000 from Council to fund their community project.
“Council is looking for projects that bring diverse and fresh approaches to the table in addressing issues of importance in our community,” Mayor Carbone said.
“I encourage all organisations who are out there working to make our City a better place to consider using creative arts approaches to tackle social issues and apply for a Social Change through Creativity grant.
“Council will also hold grant writing workshops in February or March 2018 and provide mentoring to support applicants to develop their ideas into a project – such as how to create a budget, promoting their project and engaging participants.”
To be successful, all projects must meet the grant selection criteria and at least one grant priority area.
