Free learn to swim classes for beginners

Fairfield City Leisure Centres will run free demonstrations and classes to encourage water safety in the community, as part of NSW Water Safety Week, from 2-5 October.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said as the weather gets hotter the temptation to hit the water is greater.
“Summer in Australia is the peak drowning period, with approximately one-third of annual drowning deaths occurring in summer.
“That’s why Fairfield City Council is offering these free demonstrations and classes to encourage water safety,” he said.
“Drownings devastate families and they are preventable. I encourage residents to take this opportunity from our leisure centres to be safe in and around water.
“The first step in learning to swim is always the hardest, and we want to make it easier for people to get in the water, increase their confidence and start the journey towards learning to swim.”
During Water Safety Week, Fairfield City Council's three Leisure Centres are offering free Learn to Swim classes for beginner swimmers and CPR demonstrations.
Between Tuesday 2 and Friday 5 October, free swimming lessons are being offered at Prairiewood Leisure Centre on Wednesday and Friday; at Cabravale Leisure Centre on Tuesday; and Fairfield Leisure Centre on Thursday.
